blackberries
I've spent the last two days cooking. Countless hours over a grill, less because the food needed tending and more because I love the flames and the smoke and being able to make the fire leap up when various liquids drip onto burning coals. Time chopping and prepping and mixing and baking. It's half past midnight and I just cooked pasta sauce and prepped lunches for tomorrow and baked banana bread. Tomorrow is apple pie day and four more loaves of banana bread, not because I really like either, but because the fruit will spoil soon and something has to be done with it.
I feel like so much of my life is spent trying to fight off the inevitable decay of something. Fruit, however, is so much easier to fix than my total lack of discipline.
